Job Description: About the Role:
The Los Angeles Unified School District is recruiting highly experienced registered dietitians to plan, coordinate, and implement nutrition education and promotional programs on behalf of the Network for a Healthy California.
The Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate will be highly proficient in written and spoken English, capable of working independently with little supervision, and have excellent planning and organizational skills.
This individual will have a proven track record of producing innovative solutions to complex problems and will have extensive experience writing reports.
In addition, this person will have the ability to:
Conduct food research and analyze test data; Analyze nutritional content of menus and recipes including special diets; Operate modern kitchen equipment and utensils; Maintain a variety of accurate records and files; Perform food demonstrations; Lead training sessions, meetings and discussion groups relative to nutrition and school meal policies; Work effectively with others; Conceptualize and implement new product ideas; Utilize word processing, spreadsheet, PowerPoint, and/or other computer software applications; Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills.
The ideal candidates will also have extensive knowledge of:
Principles of nutrition; Federal and State regulations pertaining to child nutrition; -Correct utilization of food preparation equipment; Proper sanitation and food handling procedures based on the principles of Hazardous Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP).
Job Responsibility: Job Duties:
A Nutrition Specialist analyzes recipes, conducts student taste tests, performs food demonstrations, develops educational materials and conducts training, and serves as a technical resource in matters of nutrition.
Job Requirement: Minimum Requirements:
Education:
Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor's degree in foods and nutrition, dietetics, food science, or didactic dietetics, nursing, biology, or health science.
Experience:
Two years of technical experience in the field of nutrition, dietetics, or implementing child nutrition programs. Registered dietitian license preferred.
Special Requirements:
A valid California Driver License and the availability of private transportation, or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation.
A valid Food Protection Manager Certificate issued by an American National Standards (ANSI) accredited organization.
