"The Community Eligibility Provision"Key Areas: State Update
Session: Session F - Sunday, November 16th: 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. - 311/312
Speaker(s): Sharon Freschi - School Nutrition Programs Specialist, California Department of Education, Nutrition Services Division
Objectives: Increase your understanding of the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) and provide you with the knowledge to determine whether it is a good fit for any of your schools.
Description: The CEP is a new Provision that became available to schools in California beginning with the 2014-15 School Year. It is a four-year reimbursement alternative for high poverty LEAs and schools. Qualified schools experience an increase in revenue, a reduction in administrative burdens, and eliminate overt identification of needy students while providing both breakfast and lunch to all students at no charge. Students of schools participating in the CEP tend to perform better academically, have better health, and maintain better school attendance.
