Objectives: Understand Oakland's California Thursday Program, including program development, menu planning, sourcing, and marketing.
Understand the challenges and successes of sourcing local grains and proteins.
Understand the supply chain relationships formed with Fresh Point/Sysco and a local aggregation company and farm - Capay Organics.
Be inspired to start sourcing locally beyond produce in their districts!
Description: Learn about Oakland Unified's new California Thursdays program, where the whole meal - grains, proteins, and produce - is sourced from California. This program is the next step in Farm to School sourcing for the district and is the result of collaboration between Nutrition Services, cafeteria managers and cooks, and community partners. Hear about our successes, challenges, and future plans.

Alexandra Emmott - Oakland Unified School District
Speaker Bio:
Alexandra Emmott has worked for Oakland Unified School District since August of 2012 as the Farm to School Supervisor. Before coming to Oakland, Alexandra owned a successful bakery and cafe in Boston and worked for Boston Public Schools. Alexandra graduated from McGill University in 2004 and was awarded her SNS certification from SNA in 2013.
Jennifer LeBarre - Oakland Unified School District

Speaker Bio:
Jennifer LeBarre has worked for Oakland Unified School District since 1998 and has served as the Executive Director of Nutrition Services since 2003. Jennifer has won numerous awards and recognitions during her time at OUSD and was recently named a Health Hero by the California Endowment. Jennifer holds a BA in Psychology from UC Santa Cruz and was awarded her SNS certification from SNA in 2013.
Amy Glodde - Oakland Unified School District
Speaker Bio:
Amy Glodde has consulted for Oakland Unified School District as a Registered Dietitian and Menu Planner since 2008. Amy also serves as a Public Health Nutritionist for the Alameda County Department of Public Health. Amy graduated from Ohio University in 1998 and also holds an Masters in Public Health from San Jose State University.
