Objectives: At the end of the session, participants will be able to describe the learner-centered approach used in a new nutrition curriculum for school nutrition staff, Focus on Food. They will also gain an awareness of the resources available for school nutrition staff offered by the Cal-Pro-NET program at the University of California, Davis, Center for Nutrition in Schools.
Description: Join us for a look at an exciting new nutrition curriculum for school nutrition staff, Focus on Food. This panel will give an overview of the curriculum, which covers basic nutrition concepts, followed by an interactive demonstration of one of the learner-centered activities. We will also provide information about the other programs and resources offered by the University of California, Davis, Cal-Pro-NET Program, funded by the California Department of Education and supported by the Center for Nutrition in Schools.

Speaker Bio:
Anna Jones is a postdoctoral scholar at the University of California, Davis, and Associate Director of the Cal-Pro-NET Program at the Center for Nutrition in Schools. She has worked for the UC Davis Cal-Pro-NET Center since 2006, and her dissertation research included the development, implementation, and analysis of the Training and Education Needs Assessment Survey, conducted in partnership with the California Department of Education.
Kelley Brian, MPH - Department of Nutrition, University of California, Davis
Speaker Bio:
Kelley Brian is a nutrition program representative at the University of California, Davis. She is involved in the Cal-Pro-NET Program at the Center for Nutrition in Schools and nutrition education research in the Nutrition Department. Kelley has been working on a multi-component program called the Shaping Healthy Choices Program, facilitating inquiry-based nutrition education lessons and developing a cooking demonstration curriculum for youth.
Jessica Linnell - Department of Nutrition, University of California, Davis
Speaker Bio:
Jessica Linnell is a Doctoral Candidate in the Graduate Group in Nutritional Biology at the University of California, Davis working with Sheri Zidenberg-Cherr, PhD. Her research interests include the development of evidence-based nutrition education programs and her dissertation research focuses on the development and evaluation of a learner-centered, inquiry-based nutrition curriculum implemented within a multi-component nutrition program called the Shaping Healthy Choices Program (UC-ANR Grant Project # 11- 1018).
