Description: It has been proven that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Participation in the federal School Breakfast Program can help your students improve academically and can enhance your school nutrition program. Join a panel of Food Service Directors that have successfully implemented breakfast in their schools, and learn the tricks of the trade in making breakfast your most important meal of the day.

Speaker Bio:
Lisa Melhouse, RD, is a Nutrition Education Consultant with the California Department of Education (CDE), Nutrition Services Division (NSD) where she is a member of the Food Service Training Team and coordinates training through the California Professional Nutrition Education and Training Center (Cal-Pro-NET) through the San Jose State University. Prior to joining the Education and Nutrition Policy Unit at NSD, Ms. Melhouse spent six years with the Field Services Unit in NSD as the Southern Regional Manager. Previously, Ms. Melhouse was the Director of Dietetics at Agnews Developmental Center. Ms. Melhouse received her Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics from the Minnesota State University, Mankato.
Jose Alvarado - Fresno Unified SD
Speaker Bio:
Jose Alvarado is the Food Services Director for Fresno Unified School District. He has been in K-12 for over 27 years and 5 years as Food Services Director. He attended and graduated from California State University - Fresno with a degree in Information Systems and a MBA (Master in Business Administration).
Each day his team prepares over 88,000 meals, including 25,000 -Breakfast, 55,000 Lunches, and 8,000 afterschool snacks at 104 serving sites. In addition, each day over 800 special diet meals are prepared to meet the special dietary needs of students. Over 82% of the students in Fresno Unified School District are eligible for free meals and operate 83 "Provision II"

Ms. Robin Gallagher - Hayward Unified School District
Speaker Bio:
Robin Gallagher is the Director of Food Services at Hayward Unified School District. A longtime advocate for the elimination of junk food in the National School Lunch Program Robin Gallagher launched her 15 years of school Food Service Management lobbying law makers in the state. Her passion for making school lunches tasty and appealing to children in support of education has resulted in innovative menus, recipes and strategies. She bears witness we can change students mindset to want what they need nutritionally for success in the classroom. Now the Director at Hayward Unified, she and her staff has adopted the mission statement - Fuel for School - Healthy Meals Ready Minds. Robin is dedicated to the success of the mission.
Ms. Jessica Linford - Plumas Unified School District
Speaker Bio:
Jessica Linford is the Food Services Program Manager for Plumas Unified School District. She has worked for Plumas Unified School District in Food Services for four years; two of which were as Program Manager. She has an Associate in Arts from Feather River College and is certified as a ServSafe instructor. She is married with two wonderful kids and has lived in Plumas County for 15 years.
