Objectives: The course objective is to teach food service directors methods to calculating their nonprogram food costs.
Description: The U.S. Department of Agriculture established requirements regarding revenue from foods sold outside of the reimbursable meal when those foods are purchased with the school food service account, otherwise known as nonprogram foods. The California Department of Education, Nutrition Services Division will discuss:
-The purpose of the revenue from nonprogram foods provision
-What is considered a nonprogram food
-How to determine the costs attributed to a nonprogram food
-How to determine if a school food authority is in compliance with the nonprogram foods provision

Speaker Bio:
Joan Davis is a School Nutrition Program Specialist within the California Department of Education's Nutrition Services Division. She is one of the lead specialist for the Cafeteria Fund Team providing technical assistance for Food Service Directors concerning nonprogram food revenues and capital expenditure while maintaining compliance with federal and state regulations and laws. As part of the School Nutrition Program Unit, Joan is responsible for administering the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), School Breakfast Program, Special Milk Program, and Meal Supplements (Snacks) under the NSLP.
