Objectives: The objective of this session is to provide guidance regarding the direct certification requirements, state and local match process, updates, and how direct certification can help districts with the Local Control Funding Formula.
Description: The California Department of Education, Nutrition Services Division will provide guidance on the requirements regarding the direct certification of students using CalFresh and CALWORKs. This session also include instructions on how to conduct state and local matches, and how the use of direct certification can help districts with the Local Control Funding Formula.

Speaker Bio:
Naaz Rathore has been working on the Direct Certification (DC) project for the past two years and is currently the DC lead analyst. She is well-versed on DC policies and regulations and provides technical assistance on how to conduct this process to all participating National School Lunch Program sponsors.
Sela Fessehaie - California Department of Education, Nutrition Services Division
Speaker Bio:
Sela Fessehaie has over sixteen years of experience as a research, data, and policy analyst at the local, statewide, and national levels. She specializes in taking an interdisciplinary approach to solving complex technical and programmatic challenges. She also develops and conducts training and technical assistance for educators from K-12 and university settings as well as managers, administrators, and program staff in various types of publicly funded programs.
