Objectives: Participants will learn how to make eligibility determinations based on household application and Direct Certification information and learn how to complete Verification activities and report the results in the annual Verification Report.
Description: The Eligibility and Verification processes serve as the foundation of your school meal programs. Eligibility and Verification determinations establish the amount of reimbursement each meal earns for your program. The eligibility portion of this session will provide an overview of the eligibility determination process, including a discussion on direct certification. The verification part of this session will provide an overview of the verification process.

Speaker Bio:
Tara Chambers is a School Nutrition Programs Specialist with the California Department of Education (CDE), Nutrition Services Division (NSD). She is the lead specialist over the Verification Report. As part of the Northern School Nutrition Programs Unit (NSNPU), Tara is responsible for administering the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), School Breakfast Program, Special Milk Program, and Meal Supplements (Snacks) under the NSLP. Tara has worked for the CDE for eight years.

Speaker Bio:
Naaz Rathore has been working on the Direct Certification (DC) project for the past two years and is currently the DC lead analyst. She is well-versed on DC policies and regulations and provides technical assistance on how to conduct this process to all participating National School Lunch Program sponsors.
