Description: Hunger doesn't take a vacation when school is out. In this session we will share ideas and best practices on how to effectively promote your summer meal programs to the community, partner with community-based organizations to increase your summer meal sites, and successfully start a summer meal program for the first time.

Karen King - California Department of Education's (CDE) Nutrition Services Division
Speaker Bio:
Karen King is a manager in the Field Services Unit for the Nutrition Services Division. Her team is responsible for monitoring compliance with federal nutrition programs in the greater Sacramento area. She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Science in the area of Nutrition. Karen worked in the Women, Infant and Children Program at several locations within the central region on California for ten years and has worked for the Department of Education, Nutrition Services for four years. She is a registered dietitian.

Janice Hunt - California Department of Education's (CDE) Nutrition Services Division
Speaker Bio:
Janice Hunt has been a Child Nutrition Supervisor in the Field Services Unit for the past 15 years. Janice has a M.A. degree in Foods and Nutrition from CA State University, Los Angeles. She completed an internship in Dietetics at Highland Alameda County Hospitals in Oakland, CA. Janice's other experiences includes clinical and administrative dietetics, public health nutrition, nutrition consultant for pregnant teens, and the developmentally disabled. She started in the Department of Education as a Child Nutrition Consultant and has worked in the Department for the past 23 years.

Elsie Kawato - California Department of Education's (CDE) Nutrition Services Division
Speaker Bio:
Elsie Kawato is a Registered Dietitian and works as a Field Services Child Nutrition Consultant (CNC) within the California Department of Education's (CDE) Nutrition Services Division. She has been a CNC with the CDE for 16 years.
