Objectives: Having difficulty establishing a web presence for your program? Still wondering if social media can assist you in reaching your target customers? This session will explore marketing in the digital age and uncover some easy-to-implement solutions to connect you with your customers and boost sales! We will take a close look at a variety of social media tools and highlight their unique advantages and disadvantages while understanding what content will engage your audience. In addition, some basic principles of graphic design and digital photography will be addressed that will give you the confidence you need to elevate your program to the next level!

Speaker Bio:
After graduating from Humboldt State University with a degree in Communication, Herbie Smith found himself in the world of school food service with the responsibility to market the school lunch program. Over the past seven years, Herbie has developed a cohesive brand for the Child Nutrition Services Department in the San Marcos Unified School District, which has enabled students, parents, teachers and administrators to reframe the way they think about school lunch. Herbie has continued to develop new marketing campaigns utilizing his skills in graphic design, video production, web design, and social media, which have translated into increased participation in the National School Breakfast and Lunch Programs each year. Herbie is currently working as an Ambassador Trainee with the California Department of Education Nutrition Services Division, traveling throughout California to share best practices with school nutrition professionals. His experience and innovative approach to promoting school nutrition has made him an expert among colleagues in California. Herbie's goal is to inspire nutrition professionals to embrace the evolution of school food service and facilitate change one meal at a time.
