Objectives: Participants shall gain an improved understanding of how to meet or exceed expectations during the Administrative Review. Participants will learn organizational tips and tricks for managing required documentation, and following a timeline for review success. Participants will evaluate their department for preparedness and identify gaps that need to be completed prior to their next review.
Description: This session will share a variety of helpful hints, tips, and tools for a successful Administrative Review. Melissa and Jennifer have a combined experience of well over 100 Administrative Reviews through their work as consultants in California schools. They have built a wide variety of reliable resources for streamlining preparation and reducing stress during an AR Year. They will walk you through what to expect during the Administrative Review from the Off-Site Assessment, the Cafeteria Visit, the Menu Review, and the On-Site Review paperwork. Together they will discuss common audit findings and how to avoid these mistakes during your next review. A question and answer session will be held at the end and printed handouts will be provided.

Melissa has a deep-rooted passion for school nutrition. She is owner and founder of My School RD, a consulting company with the vision of schools creating healthier lunch menus. Melissa has 20 years of experience as a child nutrition specialist and nutritional analyst, and wakes up every morning with cheerful enthusiasm for the new day and the challenges it brings. As a former School Meals Initiative Audit Specialist, Melissa approaches the task of nutritional analysis, school district audit preparation, and record keeping with an eye for detail and meticulous organization. She sincerely values the relationships she carries with her clients, who are lifelong customers. Melissa has two delightful children, has mentored CSU Long Beach dietetics students for 15 years, and is on the CSULB Dietetic Internship Advisory Board. In her â€"spare time,†she is founder of a nonprofit organization called Legacy Kids Project, fosters kittens for the animal shelter, dabbles in horse whispering, cooking, and gardening, and is a life coach, encouraging and empowering individuals to reach their highest potential.

Jennifer McNeil, RDN, is the founder of LunchAssist, a project that is helping child nutrition programs succeed. She is passionate about school nutrition and loves helping people navigate the complex regulations so they can focus on what matters most: feeding our children well! Jen supports her clients in a variety of ways including help with menus, procurement, eligibility, and Administrative Reviews. She has also taught culinary and menu planning courses for CDE’s Preschools SHINE program since 2014. Prior to starting LunchAssist, Jen spent seven years as a Child Nutrition Director and Supervisor in two Districts. Her proudest accomplishments include offering students in both district’s over 50% locally grown produce and earning earn 13 Gold Awards of Distinction through the HealthierUS Schools Challenge.
