Objectives: Participants will have a renewed sense of excitement for breakfast, and lots of ideas to 'mix things up' in their program. They will have new/different recipes and ways to change old recipes up, giving things a new twist.
Description: Do you ever feel like you keep making the same breakfast over and over again? Have you ever thought that maybe you could increase your plant-based options in the morning? Join Kerry Billner and Lauren Pitts RD, of the Humane Society of the US- Forward Food Program, as they talk about ways to jazz-up your regular breakfast recipes. This interactive presentation will include audience participation, question/answer and food education. They will provide many of their K12-compliant plant-based recipes, as well as review new ideas and suggestions from the audience. Let's have fun with breakfast and increase participation!

Lauren Pitts, RD - The Humane Society of the US
Speaker Bio:
Lauren Pitts is a registered dietitian for Forward Food, a program of the Humane Society of the United States. She has successfully worked with several schools, hospitals, universities, and other institutions to implement healthier, more sustainable plant-based meals. In these mutually-beneficial partnerships, Lauren introduces these institutions to plant-based foods through recipe planning, chef trainings, and nutrition education. Lauren completed a yearlong dietetic internship with Baylor University Medical Center, obtained her Master's degree from the University of Oklahoma and Bachelor's from Oklahoma State University. Lauren lives in Los Angeles and enjoys hiking, traveling, cooking and time spent with family and friends.
Kerry Billner - The Humane Society of the US
Speaker Bio:
Kerry started working in non-profit right out of high school. She graduated from the California Culinary Academy in 1997 and worked as a cook, sous chef, senior sous chef and banquet chef until 2004.She worked in K12 food service for 12 years before joining the Humane Society of the US as a coordinator with chef/culinary duties. Kerry has worked with school districts all over the country through recipe and menu development and regularly presents on plant-based foods and trends.
