Objectives: The objective of this session is to broaden understanding of current nutrition science related to the unique nutritional needs of children, specifically as related to academic success.
Description: Current nutrition science allows us to understand more clearly the unique nutritional needs of children. This session will dig deeper into how nutritious foods, made readily available in school meal programs, are important for improved academic and health outcomes among children and adolescents.

Speaker Bio:
Alyson Foote, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, is Project Manager for the Food Systems and Access Team at Dairy Council of California. Dedicated to supporting the health of children, Alyson is deeply committed to creating opportunities for families to live healthier lifestyles. In her role at Dairy Council of CA, Alyson manages the development, implementation and evaluation of plans, strategies and budgets for projects and programs related to food systems and access initiatives. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and Dietetics from the Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada, and completed her dietetic internship at the Health Care Corporation of St. John’s, also in Newfoundland.
Phoebe Copp - Dairy Council of California
Speaker Bio:
Based in the Central Valley of California, Phoebe Copp is Community Nutrition Adviser Supervisor for Dairy Council of California. In this role she provides leadership, mentoring and support to other community nutrition advisers across the state to help them reach their regional and organizational goals, elevating the health of children and parents though the pursuit of lifelong healthy eating habits.
Dairy Council of CA’s nutrition education focus allows Phoebe to blend her passion for science and food with her desire to have a positive impact on the lives of others. Phoebe holds a Bachelor of Science in Clinical Nutrition from the University of California at Davis.
