Objectives: Anticipate and effectively plan for the impending costs of doing business associated with increases in minimum wage (and its potential effects on student eligibility & LCFF), new trucking regulations, employee health costs and PERS.

Description: Be proactive in navigating upcoming turbulent waves (i.e.) minimum wage increases, trucking costs, PERS, employee health costs and more, so you are not thrown off course(or overboard)!

Jennifer joined the San Francisco Unified School District in June 2018 after nearly twenty years in Oakland Unified School District. Jennifer supervises the day to day operations of the district?s school meal program including TK-12 breakfast, lunch, supper and snack, breakfast, lunch, and snack for Early Education sites. The Mission of Student Nutrition Services is to nourish our students with quality food that enables them to live healthy lives and thrive inside & out of the classroom. Jennifer also works at the State and National level to improve school meals, increase access to the meal program, and increase locally sourced food. She believes providing healthy & delicious meals to students is critical to ensure success for the students, their families, & community.

Jon Sugimoto - Integrated Food Service
Speaker Bio:
Jon began in the food business as a bakery delivery driver in 1978 where he serviced several of the Giuliano Delicatessen stores along with other retail and restaurant customers. In 1980 Jon owned and operated a food distribution business where he sold commodity and commercial products to School Districts, and a variety of food products to Colleges and C-Stores in Southern California. In 1991 Jon founded Integrated Food Service (IFS) with Paul Giuliano. As a co-founded of Integrated Food Service, he was directly exposed to all aspects of growing and managing a food manufacturing business. Since its inception, IFS has grown from a 4,000 square foot facility with only 20 employees to 100,000 square feet of USDA and Bakery Production with approx. 250 employees owned and operated on an 8 acre compound. Jon is directly responsible for the national school sales consisting of eight (8) Regional Sales Managers, and the oversight and growth of the business in 42 States. This business consists of the largest districts in the nation, and brokers and distributors in forty eight (48) markets across the U.S. He also remains actively involved with all other functions of the business.

Bryan Miller - Cutler-Orosi JUSD
Speaker Bio:
Growing up in an Italian home Bryan learned from a young age that food is a great way to bring people together.
Bryan has been in food service for 25 years. Primarily working in private industry and moving to school food service 4 years ago as a Food Service Director. Bryan has been the Executive Chef and Food Service Director of a central valley casino, owned a catering business, and cooked for youth and social club events. Working in both the public and private sectors Bryan has a unique perspective on budgets and personnel issues.
With years of experience in the culinary arts Bryan has learned to manage a business as well as create appetizing and delicious meals. Just like he learned from childhood, Bryan?s philosophy is to create great food within any environment.
