"The Power of the Wellness Policy and Committee"Key Areas: Nutrition/Nutrition Education
Session: Session C - Saturday, November 16th: 8:45 a.m. - 9:45 a.m.
- Mesquite DE
Speaker(s): Janet Stevenson - Lead Chef Instructor, Orfalea Foundation's School Food Initiative
Objectives: Participants will be able to identify the required components of the local school wellness policy, including those that relate to stakeholder involvement from building to evaluation and reporting, in order to determine how to utilize both to garner stakeholder and board support for their own programs and work.
Description: A well-crafted Wellness Policy and an active Wellness Committee can support the Child Nutrition Programs, while being modeled by an adopted Workplace Wellness philosophy. A Wellness Policy can provide an opportunity for the entire school district to define, and align on, a shared vision of wellness.
A Wellness Committee, whose membership reflects the cultural, ethnic, and economic diversity of the communities they serve, can play a leadership role in drafting policies that ensure high standards for health and learning within the district. Workplace Wellness, both in document and philosophy, develop valuable opportunities for the staff to create a sustainable healthy workplace.
