Objectives: By the end of the session, participants will be able to:1) identify the factors that motivate Child Nutrition Directors to purchase locally,2) identify the barriers to Child Nutrition Directors in purchasing local produce3) learn the benefits and challenges to using local produce in school meals

Joan Giampaoli - CSU, Chico
Speaker Bio:
Joan Giampaoli received her PhD in Food Systems Management from Oregon State University and is a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist. She works at California State University, Chico teaching food management classes and is the Dietetic Internship Director for the CSU, Chico dietetic internship program. She enjoys conducting research with students; some of her research topics include local foods in school food service, improving fruit and vegetable consumption among elementary school children, and leadership among nutrition professionals.
