Objectives: Participants will be able to identify three strategies to engage students and their families in nutrition education and physical activity via peer education and special events.
Description: A 2015-16 Champions for Healthy Kids Grant recipient, Student Voices for Healthy Choices is a nutrition education/physical activity project of the Santa Clarita Valley School Food Services Agency. This session will focus on the strategies involved for elementary students to become nutrition leaders; and planning complementary special events to engage students and their families such as Kids Cooking at the central kitchen and Family Fitness Night at schools. Successes, challenges, and sustaining the project without grant funds will be presented.

Speaker Bio:
Tracy Fiscella, MS, RDN, SNS is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and School Nutrition Specialist working for Santa Clarita Valley School Food Services Agency as a Nutrition Specialist. Tracy's focus is to ensure the school meals are delicious, nutritious, and meet guidelines; and that nutrition education is supported in schools.

Speaker Bio:
Sue Peak RDN, is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist contracting with the Santa Clarita Valley School Food Services Agency as a Nutrition Educator. Sue works primarily to develop and facilitate nutrition education lesson plans and activities in elementary schools.
