Objectives: Participants will be able to share three talking points to gain support for their meal program. Participants will know how to use effective body language to leave a positive impression when working with parents, students and their community. Participants will describe persuasive speaking techniques.
Description: This session is for all school nutrition staff that interacts with parents, teachers and school administration. Every interaction is a chance to leave them impressed with the work you do to provide healthy nutritious meals for students in your district. The impression you have on them is key to gaining their support.
Join us as we cover practical strategies for planning, preparing and delivering your message to gain support for your school nutrition program. Participants will practice building their skills for interacting with the public, including effective use of body language.

Shannan Young - Dairy Council of California
Speaker Bio:
Shannan Young is a Senior Project Manager for the Dairy Council of California. She is a registered dietitian and credentialed as a school nutrition specialist through School Nutrition Association and received her Bachelor of Science degree in community nutrition from University of California, Davis. She is passionate about the important role school food service departments have in supporting students' wellness and academic success and has over 18 years' experience in providing state and local level leadership in building comprehensive nutrition education programs in California schools. This includes working as a Nutrition Education Consultant for the California Department of Education (CDE) and as a Nutrition Specialist for the Elk Grove Unified School District.
Matt Upton - Bell Tasty Foods, Inc.
Speaker Bio:
Matthew L. Upton. Matt serves as the V.P. of GO "Growth and Opportunities" for Bell Tasty Foods, Inc. He has served as chairman and member of various nonprofit and volunteer community interest boards and committees for the last 33 years.
Through serving he has learned the wonder and rich blessings that are discovered in partnerships.
Matt is the Dad of five wonderful adults, three men and two women. Each of them is discovering their best place in their own community. He celebrated 33 years of marriage this year.
He has spoken as a keynote speaker, breakout session leader, many back to school sessions, and in service throughout School Nutrition Associations as well as many school district school nutrition programs.
Matt is the owner/founder of On The Move Forward, which is committed to Building those that build people.
