"LCAP: The School Nutrition Connection"Key Areas: Administration
Session: Session A - Friday, November 11th, 2016: 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.
- Platinum 1
Speaker(s): Melissa Cannon - Nutrition Policy Advocate, California Food Policy Advocates
Miguel Villareal - Food and Nutrition Services Director, Novato Unified School District
Objectives:
- Learn how school districts have incorporated school nutrition programs into their Local Control and Accountability Plans.
- Identify the connection between school nutrition programs and funding priorities for the Local Control and Accountability Plan.
- Obtain knowledge and resources to gain support from school administrators to incorporate school nutrition programs into your district's Local Control and Accountability Plan.
Description: Despite the best efforts of school food service leaders, millions of California students miss out on the academic benefits of the school nutrition programs. Disadvantaged students, the focus of California's school funding reform, stand to benefit most from nutritious school meals. Improving the reach of the school nutrition programs (in terms of access, participation, and quality) increases student success and improves school climate. In this session, learn how school districts across California have leveraged nutrition services to address Local Control and Accountability Plan priorities including pupil achievement, pupil engagement, and school climate. Walk away with tools and resources to gain support and buy-in from the administrators within your own school district.
