Description: For a number of years, the California SNA has advocated to amend the National School Lunch Act to recognize that children living in regions of the country with high cost of living, like the metropolitan Northeast, DC metro area, and most of California are not treated the same as children
in lower cost regions. The law uses one standard for eligibility for school meals except for Alaska and Hawaii, so a child in these high cost areas may be living in poverty but not even qualify for reduced price meals. This session explains the problem and possible ways to fix it.
