Jennifer McNeil - Director of Child Nutrition Services, Encinitas Union School District
Objectives: Learn the financial benefits of kitchen and cafeteria waste reduction.
Understand how purchasing decisions impact waste generation.
Realize why it is important for food service directors to get involved in reducing waste.
Description: If you haven't heard the phrase "zero-waste" yet, you will soon. The State of California has the goal of reducing waste by 75% and schools have a role to play. Industry organizations and school districts are working towards zero waste but using very different pathways. Attendees will hear from two school food service directors not only about how they control the food and packaging waste generated in school cafeterias but also how their efforts extend to the rest of the schools' waste generation. You will also hear from the Carton Council, an industry organization, about the free resources available to help school districts reduce their waste.
