Objectives: Attendees will learn practical how-tos for increasing their plant-based meal options, tips for successfully marketing their options, and learn about free marketing opportunities to increase participation and improve healthful selections.
Description: Meatless eating is growing in popularity with more and more students looking for a variety of offerings, appealing to vegetarians and meat-eaters alike. In addition to improving the health of students, increasing variety, and saving money, marketing meatless options can help increase participation and student excitement. Attendees will learn practical information on how to increase plant-based options, tips for marketing vegetarian options, and learn about free publicity opportunities to increase participation and improve healthful choices.

Karla Dumas - The Humane Society of the United States
Speaker Bio:
Karla Dumas is a registered and licensed dietitian nutritionist with The Humane Society of the United States. Prior to this, Karla spent ten years working in the field of child nutrition and school food service management. By developing resources like menu cycles and kid-tested, school-approved meatless recipes that meet federal guidelines, she helps provide districts with more plant-based meal options. Working for the benefit of children, animals and the environment is what drives her every day.
Kristie Middleton - The Humane Society of the United States
Speaker Bio:
Kristie Middleton is the senior director of food policy for The Humane Society of the United States. She has successfully worked with some of the nation's largest school districts, including Los Angeles Unified School District, Detroit Public Schools, and San Diego Unified School District, to implement Meatless Monday. Her work has been covered by national media, including The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, and CNN.
