"Turbo Charge Your Menu with the Fuel for School Pit Crew"

Objectives: Participants will have an opportunity to see, taste and discuss creative dishes prepared by the Culinary Team from Hayward Unified School District.

Participants will also be provided copies of the recipes and asked to share ideas they have come up with using commodities and fresh ingredients while trying to meet the new regulations.

Description: Enjoy a lively cooking demonstration of dishes such as Fiesta Black Bean Pasta, 3 Bean Salad and 3 Bean Chili with Peter Oshinski of Hayward Unified School District. You will be able to taste the dishes and take home copies of the recipes from Hayward's Fuel for School Food Service program. We will discuss creative uses of commodities, fresh fruits and vegetables and how to maximize getting all the regulations into your menu for little money.

Peter Oshinski SNS - Hayward Unified School District
Speaker Bio:
Peter brings over 40 years of Food Service experience to Hayward Unified School District. He discovered his passion for food at the age of 8 while cooking meals for his family on weekends.

Over the years, he worked in many local hotels and restaurants, then on to teach at the California Culinary Academy for 5 years. There he taught the practical skills of cooking while blending in his passion for nourishment. In his spare time, Peter enjoys gardening and entertaining with family and friends.

Robin Gallagher - Hayward Unified School District
Speaker Bio:
A longtime advocate for the elimination of junk food in the National School Lunch Program, Robin Gallagher launched her 15 years of school Food Service Management lobbying law makers in the state. Her passion for making school lunches tasty and appealing to children in support of education has resulted in innovative menus, recipes and strategies. She bears witness we can change student's mindset on what they need nutritionally for success in the classroom. Working alongside Al Schieder, she used her marketing background and creative energy to transform several districts into successful operations. Now teamed up with Peter Oshinski they combine talents to create delicious, nutritious, recipes maximizing the use of commodity offerings at Fuel for School in the Hayward Unified School District. They believe their zeal for Turbo Charging Your Menu can be duplicated in any district.
